7 Skincare Mistakes That Could Be Making Your Skin Look Older

7 Skincare Mistakes That Could Be Making Your Skin Look Older

Because apparently our skin has been keeping receipts. šŸ˜‚

Let's be honest. Getting older is completely normal. Wrinkles? Fine. Laugh lines? Earned them. That mysterious crease that appeared overnight and apparently plans to stay forever? Rude.

We can't stop time — and frankly, I'm not sure we'd want to. But there are a few everyday skincare mistakes that can make your skin look drier, duller and more tired than it needs to.

So let's have a little chat. No complicated 47-step routine, no standing in front of the mirror wondering what "essence" actually does, and definitely no judgement.

Here are 7 things you might want to stop doing.

1. You're treating SPF like it's only for holidays

You know the routine. The sun comes out and suddenly you remember sunscreen exists. Then you're on holiday looking like you've been lightly roasted in olive oil. šŸ˜‚

UV exposure is one of the biggest contributors to visible premature skin ageing. And yes, we live in the UK. No, that doesn't mean we're automatically safe because it's raining sideways.

Make SPF part of your morning routine, particularly when UV levels are high. Your skin will thank you — and your future self probably will too.

2. You're scrubbing your face like you're cleaning the oven

Your skin feels a little rough, so you reach for the scrub. Then you scrub... and scrub... and scrub until your face feels like you've just sandpapered a dining table.

Stop. šŸ˜‚ Your face is not a kitchen worktop.

Over-exfoliating and aggressive scrubbing can irritate your skin and leave it feeling dry, sensitive and unhappy. Exfoliation can absolutely have a place in a skincare routine, but be gentle. You want glowing skin, not a freshly polished floor.

3. You're skipping moisturiser

"I don't need moisturiser. My skin isn't dry."

Famous last words.

As we get older, skin can become drier, and dehydration can make fine lines look more noticeable. A good moisturiser helps keep your skin hydrated and can make it look smoother and more comfortable.

Think of it as giving your skin a nice drink — except you're not actually pouring water directly onto your face. Please don't do that.

4. You're changing your skincare routine every five minutes

Monday: "I'm going to simplify my skincare."

Tuesday: You see a TikTok.

"Apparently I need snail something."

Wednesday: Your friend recommends a serum.

Thursday: You've ordered three things.

Friday: Your bathroom looks like Boots exploded. šŸ˜‚

Your skin doesn't necessarily need a completely new routine every time the internet discovers a new ingredient. Constantly changing products can also make it difficult to know what's actually working for you.

Keep it simple. Find products your skin likes, stick with them and give them time. Your bathroom cupboards will also appreciate the reduced workload.

5. You think burning means it's working

This one needs to stop.

If your skincare routine leaves you thinking, "Ooooh, that's tingling!" followed by "WHY IS MY FACE ON FIRE?" ...that's probably not the glow we're looking for. šŸ˜‚

A little sensation doesn't automatically mean a product is working brilliantly. If something consistently burns or irritates your skin, it's worth stopping and reassessing.

Skincare shouldn't feel like a punishment. Your face has done nothing wrong.

6. You're trying to erase every sign that you're getting older

This is the one I really want to talk about.

We've somehow convinced ourselves that a wrinkle is a personal failure. It isn't.

You've laughed, you've smiled, you've squinted at your phone because the font was apparently designed for microscopic ants, and you've lived. Your face is allowed to show that.

Anti-ageing skincare shouldn't be about trying to turn back the clock to 2004. There is no cream that's going to wake you up tomorrow looking 25 again. And if someone promises that? Run.

The goal should be healthy, hydrated, cared-for skin — not pretending you've discovered the fountain of youth in a 50ml jar.

7. You're waiting for the "perfect" skincare routine

This is probably the biggest one.

You don't need 12 products. You don't need a bathroom shelf that looks like a laboratory, and you definitely don't need to spend £300 every time you walk into a beauty shop.

You need a routine that you'll actually use.

A simple morning routine could be cleanser, moisturiser and SPF. In the evening, cleanse, use a treatment or serum if you have one, and moisturise.

That's it.

Simple. Consistent. Actually achievable.

So what should you do instead?

Stop attacking your face. Stop buying every product TikTok tells you to buy. And stop thinking your skin has failed because it has a few lines.

Instead, cleanse gently, moisturise regularly, protect your skin from the sun, don't overdo exfoliation, give products time to work and, most importantly, be consistent.

Your skin doesn't need a 47-step routine

It needs a little love.

That's exactly the philosophy behind Glow Daily. We make skincare for real people — people who sometimes forget their skincare, people who are tired, people who don't want to spend an hour in the bathroom every night, and people who simply want lovely ingredients and products that make their routine feel like a little bit of self-care.

Our Sunrise Anti-Ageing Cream is one of those products. It's made with rosehip oil, squalane, jojoba oil, sea buckthorn oil, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, vitamin E and frankincense essential oil.

It's a little luxury for your skin without making your routine feel like homework.

And remember...

Getting older isn't the enemy. Neglecting your skin is the bit we can do something about.

So moisturise your face. Wear your SPF. Take care of your skin. Stop scrubbing like you're trying to remove a tyre mark.

And for goodness' sake...

put the skincare TikTok down. šŸ˜‚

Your skin will thank you.
